How can the website owner improve SEO without a webmaster

What can you do, as a website owner, to improve your SEO (search engine optimization) without the help of your webmaster? Meaning what can you do to help improve your web presence. You are the best person I know who knows the most about you, so who better to tell the world who you are and how you can be reached than you! One of the most over looked areas is emailings you send. When corresponding with your clients or friends make sure you have your URL (yourweb.com) in your signature. Most modern email services have a signature option that adds your signature so you are not entering it every time you send a note. And while we are talking signatures don’t forget about forums you belong to, they also have signature options for you to use.

Another is social media such as Facebook or Twitter. Do you have an account? You do! Did you create a business page or profile? No? Why not use the power of your friends. Did you know that if you only have 50 friends, that Like your Facebook business page, it has the potential to reach 10,000 of their friends with a Share campaign by you? Here is an example of a nice local business with good Facebook and Twitter interaction(s). All of it is tied together with a blog.

Are you talking to others in the same industry that you are in? I bet you are! Probably while you are at the Chamber of Commerce meeting. Get on the subject of link exchange with them and add their link to your Facebook business page. Another great source for staying in touch with colleagues past present and future contacts is Linked-in. At Linked-in you can set up a business profile or portfolio listing your website and your expertise in the industry you are in.

Do you like to write? If you do then a blog might be right up your alley. You can express your views or insight on topics that pertain to your business. A good blog that is updated frequently can drive viewers to your website. There are free blog sites such as WordPress or your webmaster can add a custom blog to your website. If they can’t, give me a shout and lets talk.
